03/29/2015: Wonder World Park
Dan went to DC for some meetings back in February. While he was there Dutch saw an episode of The Berenstain Bears that involved exploring a cave. He decided that sounded like fun and immediately asked if he could call Daddy to talk to him about it. We called Dan and Dutch explained that he would like to explore a cave that does not have any wild animals or scary things in it.
Well fast forward to a few weeks later and we decided to go to Wonder World Park and do the Balcones Fault Line Cave tour. Yes, we all went. I have been pretty freaked out by caves for most of my life, usually the thought of it makes me want to pass out. But I sucked it up and decided to go for it anyway. I did great! I didn't get freaked out at all. I think that having to carry Baker through most of it helped distract me from my usual fear.
Enough about me though, the boys thought it was pretty awesome. They even laughed when the tour guide demonstrated absolute darkness for us. We were down about 100 feet below ground and everyone sits, then they turn off the flashlights and let it be complete, absolute darkness for a few seconds. We explained what was happening to the boys beforehand, so they were prepared, and they did a great job of handling it.
After the cave tour was over we got to go up to the top of the observation tower. There are 2 look out spots on the tower, one at 110 feet the other at 130 feet. The 110 foot look out is closed in, the 130 foot look out is open air (with a fenced railing of course). It was WINDY at 130 feet. It was a great view of San Marcos though!
Up next was a trip through their Anti-Gravity House. I had never been in an anti-gravity house and did not know what to expect. It was crazy! As soon as I walked in Baker and I just about fell on our faces, luckily there was a wall there to stop us. So in the pictures below the camera is lined up with the stripes on the wall, which are not actually not straight up and down. The floor is also not straight, it is very much angled down. You can kind of tell by looking at the women in blue, she is leaning back into the angle so as not to tumble forward. After a few minutes the boys were ready to leave the anti-gravity house.
After that Dutch turned into a glowing angel for a few minutes.
Next was a train ride and feeding the animals in the wildlife area. Baker, the animal lover, liked this part the best. Dutch wasn't too keen on feeding the deer until he saw that Baker was willing to do it and that the deer didn't bite.
That was the end of our Wonder World Park tour and it happened just in time because we were all starving. We had our fill of mexican food, then the boys napped for about 3 hours. It was a good day.!
