A Little Order in A Lot of Chaos

Image
I walked into the boy's room the other day and saw this: I'm pretty sure Teddy Bear got dropped on the way to play with something else.  I couldn't help but enjoy how relaxed he looked.  It's almost like he was just hanging out watching the craziness of our household.

CDAP 2013

Image
We went to the Children's Day Art Park hosted by the Austin Symphony today. Today's performances were a strung quartet (members of the symphony) and Ballet Folklorio Austin. Both were awesome!

Nature-Palooza At The Miller House

Image
It seems like I have been seeing a lot of animals around here the last couple if weeks. I guess Spring really is in the air. Here is what I recall seeing in the last 2 days: -rabbit -ducks -hawks -turtles -cardinals -hummingbirds -white herons -great blue herons (I actually saw 2 great blue herons chasing each other this morning.) -roaming dog -lizards Add to this list what I saw last week: -huge snake -crazy huge earthworm (over 12 inches long) I took all of the pictures below today, except for the earthworm, that was last week.

Ladies Night: Crafts!

Image
I had my small group ladies night on Tuesday. It was super fun, as usual, but this month was pretty great because I learned some craft skills. Laura is crafty and she shared her knowledge with us. Here are three of the four crafts we did. (My fourth craft, glittered mason jar, did not turn out too well.)

Strawberries...

Image
Poteet strawberries that is...a flat of Poteet strawberries to be exact. That's right we have 12 over flowing pints of crisp, juicy Poteet strawberries. Now there is no way we can eat that many strawberries before they go bad so I am freezing most of them. But still, Yay!

Real Food

Image
Now I'm not going to sit here and pretend that we are an awesomely healthy food eating family. I mean Dutch eats fish sticks for dinner like 5 nights a week! But I am trying to get us to a less processed food household. I started cooking stocks (chicken & beef) and beans a few months ago and they were so easy and good that I have been wanting to fresh make more things. Saturday and Sunday I made fixed tomatoes and crushed tomatoes. Again, it was pretty darn easy! I like that I know we have greatly reduced the sodium and preservatives from our food. I'm taking it one step at a time so I don't get overwhelmed, but it feels good to make progress.

Bountiful Baskets

Image
We used a food co-op today. It was pretty cool. I placed our order for a basket on Monday and then stood in line to get our goodies this morning. They have it every 2 weeks and it is only $15. You get fresh picked, locally grown fruits and veggies! I think it's pretty cool.

The 'Neigh'-bor's Horse

Image
For some reason every time the neighbor's horse hears Dutch yell, he comes RUNNING towards us.  The first time it happened we were a little freaked out, we weren't sure he was going to stop when he got to the fence...he did. (Side note:  Dan said that after editing this photo it looks like it could be on a Led Zeppelin album cover.)

Balloons!

Image
We went to breakfast at Cafe on the Square this morning and on the way we saw these. Dutch didn't seem overly impressed :)

Snapseed

Image
I lost a couple days in there...oh well! I have an app called Snapseed that I like to play around with. It is free! And it's fun to edit photos easily with. Now I'm no master at it, I just see what I can make happen. Here is a shot I was playing with yesterday. The first is the original, the second is the edit. Which do you like?

34/365: Who Needs Cable!

Image
When you can stream the Super Bowl online why do you need cable? We hooked my laptop up to the TV and BAM we were good to go. Dutch enjoyed watching the game too.

33/365: Grill It!

Image
We grilled some veggies (chicken and shrimp too) for dinner tonight. They were awesome!! Except for the avocado, that was not so great.

Home Away From Home

Image
Or at least it seems that way. We have been at the Drs office A LOT lately. For example: yesterday, today, and twice on Monday. As much as we like our new pediatrician, we really hope to all be well soon!

The Weather Outside is Frightful

Image
Well not really but it might be later. It has been drizzling all day. Definitely a snuggle under a blanket and watch movies kind of day.

Late Night Drive

Driving home from another great night with my small group ladies.

Hoops

Image
We have played a lot a basketball today. Big Bro has actually semi thrown the ball and made it more than once! Thanks for the hoop Grandpa Jason and Nana!

Pinterest Projects

Image
Here is part 2 of my Pinterest posts.  I've been feeling ansy and crafts are great way to keep your mind and hands occupied.  These are some of the things I've made for the house. Family Values Canvas This actually took some work.  Not only did I have to paint the board, cut out the values, and glue them all down in the proper alignment, but I had to actually decide what we value enough to put on it.  I think it turned out really cute.  Although, I did try to do it on the cheap.  Instead of using a canvas ($30), I used a foam board ($2), the only issue was that the paint caused the paper on the foam board to shrink some so the corners are arched up. Lace and Twine Wrapped Jars This is an apple sauce jar that I wrapped garden twine around.  I haven't put it to use yet because I want to make more of them.  I really like the jars wrapped in lace, but haven't been able to find any lace that I like :( My Cleaning List So, this list...

Happy Easter

Image
Happy Easter to everyone! Yes, I know I'm a day early. I just had to share the picture of the pretty flowers that Dutch picked for me this evening.
